How is the work-life balance at the Big 4? I'm a current accounting major in my junior year, and everyone tells me it is hell working for those firms. Is it true? Does anyone working there have a family?

If you actually want to do well - (Which let’s face it - you don’t turn up to the Big 4 to fart arse around) then it’s not the 9.30 - 5.30pm contracted hours you start with .

’Start as you mean to go on’

I remember my first day as a Graduate Starter just in my department with 4/5 other new starters.

Month 1: Adam was coming in at 9.15 everyday

Month 2: Adam was in around 9.05 everyday

Month 5: Adam was in by around 8.40 EVERYDAY

Adam left around 6.30pm everyday.

Bear in mind…

We were told explicitly ‘Enjoy these first few months - it’ll be the easiest there are’.

We were pretty much the last one’s in, first one’s out as well. At no point did Adam start coming in LATER. He set expectations day 1. And the rest of us fell in line with that.

But at most Corporate Jobs… there is no 'work/life balance’

It’s the norm.
