If I want to become an entrepreneur, where do I start?

If I want to become an entrepreneur, where do I start?

You start by just ‘starting’.

It actually doesn’t matter ‘what’ you do. When you start from a place of ‘Zero’ than any experience is good experience. It just matters that you start.

Just remember there:

  • Are no hard and fast rules
  • People make billions from their first business (Zuckerberg)
  • Others make millions after 60 years of trying (Colonel Sanders)
  • MOST give up. Because it’s just too damn hard.

And with that in mind there are some things you must know:

That you will most likely fail

That you could put blood, sweat, tears and years into it and end up with nothing more than a bar-room conversation to show for it.

Sounds ok. But actually THINK ABOUT IT.

  • You will wake most days fretting about how you will make it work
  • The excitement of entrepreneurship will be replaced with the excrement of reality; that it’s not unlike any other job:
    • THERE IS NO ESCAPING THE DOG WORK
      • Writing blog posts, developing a product, making sales calls, marketing, being your own press agent
  • It is lonely at the top. Say goodbye to stability:
    • How will you pay rent if you’re not earning?
    • Is it really cool to be ‘an entrepreneur’ 2 years in with zero money or success to show for it?
  • You could do all the things you read in a textbook and STILL NOT MAKE IT
  • On the day of your big launch you’ll discover that most likely, apart from friends (not all) and family (some); that:

NO ONE CARES

It is YOUR DREAM , YOUR DESIRE and YOUR TIME .

And frankly no one else gives two sh*ts about your product.

Oh also. You’re not special.

  • There are a million people like you
  • And there are a million million people more talented than you

So. Now that you’ve read all of that

Give it 10 seconds to sink in. And try and take my words to heart:

‘I really think from the bottom of MY HEART. That you will end up spending two/four/six years of your life doing this and it will probably all go wrong. It’ll be the worst relationship of your life.’

So.

Still want to do it? (You’re crazy)
