Is going to grad school a smart way for a non US citizen to gain access to the country's job market?

Is going to grad school a smart way for a non US citizen to gain access to the country’s job market?

Certainly seems sensible to me. If you have a high level of technical skills you can be parachuted into an organisation - but it’s ALWAYS easier from the inside.

In this instance that would mean either:

a) Working for an organisation with international offices in the US and working from there to find a way in

b) Going to grad school

Aside from all of this you always have other options:

  1. Get a one way ticket and see if you can get someone to hire you
  2. Direct applications to local companies

All can work. I’d go with 2) to start with then consider other options!
