Is it possible to become a partner if you joined the company as an experienced hire (PwC, EY, Accenture etc)?

Professionally:

  • You have notable outside experience;
    • This will help
  • You are determined enough to ask on Quora. This will help
  • Hires are clearly made at your level so you aren’t alone in this ambition
  • The partners of ‘tomorrow’ will likely have some career movement in their history
    • It’s becoming more of the norm generally these days
  • There is no one ‘pathway to partner’
  • Many who are ‘lifers’ with one firm never make partner - even with the same ambitions as you
  • Keep your eyes on the prize

Personally

  • Not considered a ‘lifer’
  • Don’t have the same internal network/friends/allies in the company
  • Will need 1 year+ to truly understand all their procedures and the (e.g.) PWC way

Conclusion

  • Yes it is possible to make partner even when joining as an experience hire
  • It also makes no difference to your challenge. Success comes easy for no man
